10. James3 Henderson (Richard2, James1); born circa 1810; married MARY ALCORN, born circa 1811 in Pennsylvania. In 1840, 1850 and 1860,55 the family was enumerated in Deerfield Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, where James was listed as a farmer.

53 ii. Sarah Elizabeth Henderson, born circa 1834; married 19 June 1856 George Mix, born circa 1836 in Pennsylvania. In 1860, Elizabeth, George and family were living in Brokenstraw Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, where George was listed as a sawyer.57

11. WILLIAM3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born circa 1814; married MARGARET ALCORN, born circa 1813. In 1840 and 1850,59 the family was living in Deerfield Township, Warren County. The maiden name of William’s wife was Margaret Alcorn. Margaret Alcorn’s father was John Alcorn of Cherrytree Township. In John Alcorn’s will, written 17 January 1865, recorded 25 July 1865,60 daughters Mary Henderson and Margaret Henderson are mentioned.

63 v. Rachel Henderson, born circa 1848; married James Patterson Siggins, born 8 September 1839; died 21 October 1912. They apparently had no children. After Rachel died, James Siggins married Sarah A. Braden, born April 1857 in New York state. In 1880 and 1900, James and Sarah were living in Bradford, Pennsylvania, where James was enumerated as a driller in 1880 and as an oil producer in 1900.62 Also with James and Sarah in 1900 was Elizabeth B. Henderson, born September 1887 in New York state. I can not place this Elizabeth Henderson.

12. ELISABETH3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born circa 1816 in Pennsylvania; died 5 September 1885; married, 11 February, 1836, WILLIAM T. ALCORN, born circa 1815 in Pennsylvania; died in Concord Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, 31 December 1872. Both Elisabeth and William are buried in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana. In 1860, William T., Elisabeth and children were living in the Tidioute area, Warren County, Pennsylvania, where William was listed as a farmer.63 By 1870, William and Elisabeth were in Concord Township, Elkhart County, Indiana (census page 241). The 1874 Plat Map for Elkhart County, Indiana, shows William T. owning 20 acres in Jefferson Township, Elkhart County. William's estate lists 73 acres near (now part of) Elkhart City.

Note: The name is spelled Elisabeth, not Elizabeth, in the Alcorn family bible of William W. Alcorn.

With few exceptions, e. g. some census dates and related, all the information on Elizabeth Henderson and her descendents was kindly provided by Denise Tracy (seacottage7@gmaili.com). Denise is a direct descendent of Elizabeth (Henderson) Alcorn (#12) via Elizabeth's son William W. Alcorn and granddaughter Ora Lucile Alcorn. Primary and secondary documents furnished by Denise Tracy include the Alcorn Family Bible of William Wilson Alcorn, death certificates, marriage licenses, Elkhart Birth Records, numerous Elkhart obituaries from Elkhart Truth Newspaper; Elkhart Death Records; cemetery records, and federal census records.

Alcorn, born 23 December 1839; died 28 June 1904 in Los Angeles, California; married Matthew Jackson Morrison circa 1861 in Warren County, Pennsylvania; he was born 1833; died circa 1890. The family lived in Warren County, Pennsylvania. In 1900, Sarah, widow and a school teacher, was living with her daughter Ella Morrison in Los Angeles, California.
(a) Ella S. Morrison; born 13 April 1862 in Warren County, Pennsylvania. Ella was a school teacher in Los Angeles, where she died 18 August 1949. She probably did not. marry.
(b) Elizabeth Morrison; born May 1865. In 1930, Ella, single and a school teacher, was living with her unmarried sister Ella in Los Angeles.

Alcorn, born 26 April 1856 in Warren County, Pennsylvania; died 29 May 1932 in Detroit, Michigan; married,12 November 1876 in Edwardsburg, Cass County, Michigan, Euphemia "Abby" Middleton; born August 1857 in Hartford, Iowa; died (23 days before Elton died) 6 May 1932 in Wayne County, Michigan. The family lived in Elkhart, Indiana, in 1880 and 1900; in Toledo, Ohio in 1910 and 1920, and in Dearborn, Michigan, in 1930, where they were living with their son Chalmer.
Children of Elton and Euphemia (Middleton) Alcorn:
(a) William Carlton Alcorn; born 28 July 1878; died 28 August 1946 in Elkhart, Indiana married, 23 June 1903, Blanche Irene Graybill; born January 1882 in Pennsylvania; died 9 June 1957 in Elkhart, Indiana. Both William and Blanche are buried in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart. William was a tool manufacturer. They had daughter Eleanor Irene Alcorn who did not marry.
(b) Chalmer Boyd Alcorn; born 3 June 1892; died 17 October 1965 in Hamilton, Ohio; married Edith A. [—?—]; born 1893 in Michigan. Chalmer was a WW I Army veteran. Chalmer was a tool maker for an automobile company. They lived in Toledo and Alliance Ohio, and, in 1930, Dearborn, Michigan. They had one son, Donald G. Alcorn, born 31 August 1916; died 31 July 1990.


14. MARTHA3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born circa 1820; died 28 August 1898 in Titusville, where she had been a residence for 30 years, “of old age;” buried in Henderson Cemetery (location not known);64 married ROBERT PERRY WATSON, born 1821; died 31 August 1869. Robert Perry Watson was a son of Margaret (Henderson) Watson (#7); hence Martha and Robert were first cousins. Venango County Deed Book L, p. 184, instituted 4 November 1848, recorded 14 December 1848: Robert P. Watson and Martha, his wife, of Allegheny Twp., quit claim to John P. Watson, their right to the real estate of “my father, Robert W. Watson.” Witness: William Dawson. In 1850, Robert, Martha and family were living in Deerfield Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania.65

Richard4 Henderson Watson, born 8 April 1842; died 14 January 1920; buried Greenwood Cemetery, Oil Creek Township, Crawford County; married 4 October 1870 Nancy Poor, born circa 1831,66 died 1914; buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Oil Creek Township, Crawford County.67 Richard and Nancy lived in Titusville, where Richard was a carpenter. They did not have children. Nancy was the daughter of William and Rita (Dart) Poor. Another child of William and Rita was Alonzo Poor, born 1 January 1818, who married Elizabeth Henderson (#22), daughter of Samuel and Rebecca (Mitchell) Henderson. In 1850, Nancy Poor was enumerated with the Robert Green family in Allegheny Township.68

  73 iii. Robert Watson; born circa 1850. Violet and Robert Watson were listed only in the 1850 census for Allegheny Township.69
  74 iv. Jeff Watson; born July 1859; married Hattie Hotchkiss, born August 1857 in Pennsylvania. Jeff was a farmer.
Children known from the 1900 federal census when the family was living in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania and Hattie was reported to have had four children, all living (census page 12A) (all born in Pennsylvania):
(a) William Watson, born May 1881.
(b) Bertha Watson, born June 1883.
(c) Charles Watson, born October 1885.
(d) Claremont Watson, born circa May 1893.
  75 iii. George Watsom; born circa 1864. George did not marry. He lived with his uncle James Watson (#30).


16. RICHARD3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born circa 1826; married SARAH [—?—], born circa 1829 in New York70 In 1850 the family was living in Southwest Township, Warren County. By 1860, Richard was deceased, and Sarah and children were still living in Southwest Township.71 On 17 January 1865, David Mitchell, guardian of Richard’s minor children, petitioned to sell land in Southwest Township, Warren County, land which “is not sufficiently productive to support said widow and minors.”72

  77 ii. John E. Henderson; born circa 1853; married Augusta [possibly Thompson], born circa 1861 in Pennsylvania. They lived in Rome Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, where John was a farmer. In 1880, Jennie Thompson, born circa 1870 in Pennsylvania , "sister" was also living with John and Augusta.74 She probably was a sister of Augusta.

17. DANIEL3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born circa 1825; died 29 July 1886; married MARY J. [—?—], born circa 1830 in New York state. Daniel and family lived in Southwest Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, where Daniel was enumerated as a farmer. Also in the household in 1850 was Daniel’s sister, Violet Henderson (see #19), and Josiah Henderson, born circa 1836; he was possibly Daniel's brother Jaru Henderson (see #20). By 1860, Daniel had married and was living with children in Southwest Township.75

18. JULIA3 HENDERSON(Richard2, James1); born April 1826; died 30 January 1890; buried in Union Cemetery, Oil Creek Township Crawford County; married SAMUEL EVARTZ (also Evarts), born November 1818 in New York state; died 8 April 1894. They lived in Southwest Township Warren County.77 In 1850, Julia was enumerated with brother John (and Julia’s parents) in Southwest Township. In 1860, Julia's brother's daughter Mary (Polly) Henderson was living the family. By 1880, Samuel, listed as "peddling linament," Julia and son Cyrus were living in Perry Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania.78

  82 i. Sarah4 Evartz; born 2 April 1854; died 7 May 1936; married Joseph Lorenz, born 11 February 1844; died 19 July 1937.
Their children were
(a) Joseph Lorenz, born 15 October 1873; died 23 May 1954.
(b) Emmett Lorenz, born 28 July 1885; died 23 August 1961.
(c) Pearl Lorenz, born 31 January 1891; died 15 February 1942; married 3 November 1910 George Matteson, born 1887; died 1970. They lived in Crawford County.79
  83 ii. Cyrus Evartz, born circa 1864. In 1900, a Cyrus Evert, born circa 1866 in Pennsylvania and enumerated as a day laborer, was living with wife Laura [—?—], born January 1865 in Pennsylvania and children (1) Carrie Evert, born October 1890; (2) Millner R. Evert, born April 1896; (3) and Russell E. Evert, born March or May 1900.80

19. VIOLET3 HENDERSON (Richard2, James1); born 13 February 1830; died 20 May 1888; buried in Union Cemetery, Oil Creek Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; married CHARLES STEARNS, born 2 September 1829 in New York state; died 20 May 1890. The family lived mainly in Rome Township, Crawford County, where Charles was a farmer.81

Children of Charles and Violet (Henderson) Stearns:

84 i. Alba4 Stearns, born September 1853, married Ella [—?—], born January 1861 in Pennsylvania. Alba, Ella and family were living in Southwest Township, Warren County, in 1900, where Alba was listed as a teamster.82

85 ii. Ida Stearns, born 1854; died 18 June 1931; married 9 September 1875 Austin Campbell, born 6 December 1850; died 1939. They lived in Southwest Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania in 1900 with adopted daughter Violet M. Campbell, born September 1892 in Pennsylvania;83 she married Clarence Burgleigh.84

90 vii. Jonas Stearns, born 1866; married Mary [—?—]. In 1900, they were living in Oil Creek Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, where Jonas was a teamster. No children reported in 1900 and 1910.85
91 viii. Violet Stearns, born circa 1868; married James W. Ross, born circa 1864. Their children were (1) Alminta Ross, (2) Charles Ross, and (3) James Ross.

21. WILLIAM3 MITCHELL HENDERSON (Samuel2, James1); born 1816; died 5 May 1900 in Titusville, Pennsylvania; married (first) RACHEL FLEMING, born circa 1816 in Venango County, Pennsylvania; died 4 September 1843; buried in Miller Farm Cemetery, Oil Creek Township, Venango County; married (second) MARY JANE BRAWLEY, born 24 March 1818; died 5 May 1854; buried in Miller Farm Cemetery; married (third) MARY BARBER HASKINS, born circa 1820 in New York State; died 19 November 1896.86

According to William M. Henderson's obituary in a May 1900 Titusville, Pennsylvania, newspaper, probably the Titusville Herald, William was elected to various Titusville municipal boards, including the school board and was appointed and then elected city treasurer.87 "Besides his children Mrs. Frederick Feezer, of Greeley, Col.; John M. Henderson, Milton and Lee Henderson, of Sterling, Col.; deceased is survived by one brother, Joseph C. Henderson, of Oil Creek township [Crawford County]; two sisters, Mrs. David White, Forestville, N.Y., and Mrs Sarah Andre of near Pleasantville. His daughter, Dr. Ida Henderson, preceded him to the grave five years ago and his wife three years ago."

William's first wife, Rachel Fleming, was a daughter of Andrew and Ann (McClintock) Fleming—see #10 of the Fleming web site for sources and more detail. In 1850 William and second wife, Mary Jane Brawley, and family were living in Oil Creek Township, Crawford County.88 Mary Jane Brawley was one of nine children of James and Mary (Glenn) Brawley of Randolph Township, Crawford County.89 Also in William M. Henderson’s household in 1850 was a James B. Stewart, born circa 1838. In 1870, William and third wife Mary (Haskins) Henderson and children were living in Titusville, Pennsylvania, where William was listed as a farmer with $50,000 in real estate.90 In 1880, William and Mary (Haskins) Henderson and daughter Ida and son John were enumerated in Ward #2, Titusville.

94 iii. Samuel Franklin Henderson, (listed as Franklin in 1850), born 27 September 1848; died 20 February 1853; buried in Miller Farm Cemetery.93
+ 95 iv. William Lee Henderson, born 18 June 1850; married (first) Rosaline Virginia Clark, born circa 1856 in Iowa. William married (second) Emma [—?—], born March 1858.94.
96 v. Ella Merry Henderson, born 9 Nov 1852; married 12 December 1878, John Frederick Feezer (or Fezer), born October 1847 in Germany. John was a druggist. The family was in Greeley Colorado in 1880 and 1900.95

(c) Malinda Feezer, born December 1890.
The 1880 federal census spelled the name "Freger," and the 1900 census spelled it "Fozen." The name was spelled Feezer in the obituary of Ella's father.96
Children of William and third wife Mary (Haskins) Henderson (all born in Pennsylvania):

97 vi. Ida4 Bela Henderson, born circa 1856, died circa 1895.97 In 1880, she was living with her parents.98
98 vii. John M. Henderson, born February 1858; married 14 May 1890 Clara Shedd, born April 1866 in Illinois.99 In 1880, John was living with his parents; enumerated as a bank teller. John M. was the Colorado state auditor from 1891-1893. In 1900, John and Clara and cousin Ida B. Henderson were living in Titusville, Pennsylvania, where John was listed as a broker and Clara as a court stenographer. By 1910, John and Clara had moved to Chicago, Illinois, where John M. was enumerated as "Secretary Consulting."100 John and Clara were still in Chicago in 1930, where John was still active, being listed as a bookkeeper of a print supply business.101 An important Henderson genealogy source was John M. Henderson’s 1940 letter to Margaret (Williams) Robb (#228)—see “Introduction”. When living in Chicago, John M. Henderson had access to major Chicago libraries.
